10 Software

There are basically three ways in which you can make contact with the supplier of a specific software product  in the directory section of this website.

Index by function
Software is notoriously difficult to categorise and this index represents our second attempt to provide potential users with rapid access to appropriate products when only the purpose for which the software is required is known,  The original version of this site listed software under eight activity headings. Users requested a finer breakdown and this was provided when the site was re-acquired by G G Baker & Associates in 2009, software is now listed by function under 20 main categories with access via 120 sub-categories.

Index by software name
If you know the software name use this index where software is listed alphabetically. Note that we omit supplier names in the left column of this index so 'Adobe Acrobat' is listed under 'Acrobat' not 'Adobe'. We provide a very brief description of the function of each item in the centre column and, in the right hand column, the UK supplier name. Our 'Address' section will take you to the supplier's website - a tab marked 'Addresses' will be found in the header of every page of this site.

Index by supplier name
If you already know the name of the UK supplier of the software you require you can obtain details of that company's address, phone number and website under Addresses. In many cases we also list a fax number and e-mail address. If the supplier is a sponsor of this site hyperlinks are provided to take you swiftly to the supplier's website.

We only list software products under their prime function and do not normally list them under their component parts. For example, document management software will inevitably include provision for input and output, indexing and retrieval etc. but it will not be listed under any of those headings unless it has exceptional characteristics.

Our product descriptions are mainly provided for indexing purposes and do not fully describe most software products, but they indicate which items in any category are appropriate for a given requirement.

User comment is always welcome

There is no substitute for user experience and we greatly welcome comment and criticism which has already resulted in a major revision of our software classification. Please send any suggestions for improvement to gerald@ggbaker.co.uk -  they will be very carefully considered.
