Bureau Services in the UK - Geographical Listing
CODES:
COM = Computer Output on Microfilm services are available, these will
almost always include conversion of alphanumeric input, most of these
bureaux can also offer conversion of print data streams and raster
scans to 16mm roll or fiche. Plotting services for
converting CAD output to aperture cards or 35mm roll are only
available from a few locations.
Doc Scan = Document scanning and digitising. Virtually all of these
bureaux can accept input up to A3 size and return it on an indexed CD.
Larger input sizes, data return on alternative media or via the web are
common but not universal facilities. Many of these bureaux also offer
COLD facilities to convert computer output to CD.
Film Scan = Facilities are available for scanning and digitising from
at least one microform. The majority can offer scanning from 16mm roll, 35mm
roll and aperture cards. Fiche and jacket scanning services are less common.
Forms = Facilities for scanning and extracting data from forms, this
may involve character reading including hand-print and/or optical mark
recognition. These bureaux can usually also assist with form design.
M/f = 16mm and 35mm filming, jacketing, diazo duplication and
hard-copy printout facilities are almost universal. Direct filming to
aperture cards and microfiche, silver duplication, vesicular duplication,
colour microfilming and the filming of X-rays are less widely available.
OCR = Facilities for scanning input and converting alphanumeric
content to machine-readable data.
Reformat = File format conversion, often including raster to
vector conversion facilities.
Supplies = Stocks are held of at least the most common micrographic
consumables; typically camera and duplicating film, processing chemicals,
jackets and cartridges. Bureaux holding very substantial stocks and offering nationwide delivery
are also listed under Consumables
against the specific products they market.
Supply of Hardware = Many bureaux offer a selection of new and
used equipment, such as microfilm reading and printout equipment and
document scanners. These are listed under Hardware Suppliers as
Local Agents for Hardware.
