COM Recorders & Film Plotters
Most suppliers of COM recorders now offer at least one model able to
convert image or print formats as well as alphanumeric data to film. The term COM (Computer
Output Microfilm) was first used when most recorders were limited to
alphanumeric output. IOM (Image Output Microfilm) has been proposed as an
alternative to cover a wider capability, but for the moment we
are using COM Recorders to cover all types other than machines specifically designed
for plotting out from CAD applications on to 35mm roll or aperture cards,
which we categorise as Film Plotters. The manufacturer's name, if different, is
shown in italics.
